session 3: roro

this shoot was so much fun! Roro is a dear friend of mine, and long time cancer survivor. She invited Jason and I to come take photos at her ladies group. These women, mostly with grandma status, get together every other week with the purpose of dropping worries at the door so that they can just let loose and simply laugh...and laugh they did! On this particular Thursday evening, we got a glimpse of BINGO night. With dimes filling the pot and chocolates scattered on the table it made it easy to forget the worries outside and focus on winning that round. They asked us if we wanted to play, but luckily I had left my dimes on my nightstand.

The energy in the room was amazing. No more than a few seconds went by between someone cracking a joke and outbursts of laughter. But when you've been through what these gals have, laughter and enjoying life is the best medicine. Of the six women sitting around the table, three of them had survived breast cancer and another one of them has a mother, I believe in her 90's, who is also a survivor. It seemed to all of them breast cancer was a distant memory and by looking at them, you would never imagine that these happy-go-lucky ladies had ever been sad or gone through a storm. They take each day one at a time, thankful for the blessings and thankful for their friends.

  1. Jason and Cari, you captured our hearts. But I think you had the wrong Bingo game. I don't recognize that older women in this picture. :)
