Meet our latest calendar girl, Michelle Millman! By day, Michelle is hustling all over the Seattle Metro as a Reporter for KIRO 7 TV, and the rest of the time, she is a devoted mother to her two boys, and wife to her high school sweetheart, Mike. They are a beautiful family and were gracious enough to welcome us into their home to do this photo shoot.
When I met with Michelle and started talking to her, I received a very different story than all the others we've encountered thus far along our journey. She just finished her treatment earlier this year, and so her hair is still very short, she told me that she still has moments of panic when she feels anything physically out of the ordinary because it might be cancer related, and she’s still learning how to share her story with others. It’s just all too new, and she’s dealing with it in such a public way that the big ‘aha!’ learning moment hasn't hit her yet. She’s just living her life, working at her job that she loves, and dedicating herself to her family, which mean the world to her.
This picture was taken behind their yard in the greenbelt where the boys helped their dad and grandfather build a tree house. Michelle told me that this project had been in the ‘planning’ stage for a long time. Then, when she was going through treatment, the family decided that building this tree house needed to happen for the boys. She wanted them to feel like they could fix something since they couldn't fix mommy. Now it’s a place for them to escape and play and a place that I’m sure gives Mike and Michelle some peace of mind.
