Laurie Smith

Back in March, when Jason and I began this journey, one if the first people that we told was our fellow togger friend Charity. As we were telling her our plan, she lit up and mentioned that her mom was a breast cancer survivor and that I should ask her. We were finally able to connect last month for a photo shoot up in the mountains of central Washington near their home in Leavenworth.

Laurie is the director of finance during the week for a biotech company in Bothell, WA and married to Dave, a long time UPS employee and ski instructor. They live in Woodinville M - F, and then rain or shine they make their way out to Leavenworth for the weekend.

As you can see from the picture, Laurie is dual sport motorcycle rider. After going through her experience with breast cancer last year, she received a check from her insurance company and decided that she wanted to use the money to buy her and her husband bikes. She had had a motorcycle in the past and decided it was time to get back to it. It took very little convincing for Dave, and they soon became avid riders. They make a game out of exploring forest service roads in the mountains, followed by evenings lounging out on their deck with a glass of wine in their hands and the Enchantments Mountain Range as their backdrop soaking in the fresh air. Down the road, they have plans of starting their own vineyard on the property and living there full time, but for now, if you find yourself driving on HWY 2 over Stevens pass, keep your eyes peeled for Laurie and Dave.
